Giving to the Community
Giving back to the community is integral part of Sportop's role in Thunder Bay. We shifted dollars away from advertising and started spending in the community by way of donations. Giving back to the community is something that we feel very strongly about. We look forward to supporting those who have helped us grow and become what we are today.

Local Teams
Sportop has financially sponsored the Sportop AAA Bantam Kings
for the last 15 years supporting young players in their hockey careers helping them realize their dreams in the NHL.
Derek Geddes, of Sportop, has coached minor hockey for over 20 years; he coached in the Thunder Bay Kings program from 1995-2002. His biggest success as a coach came in 1997 as the Sportop AAA Bantam Kings won provincial gold. The team that year amassed a record of 66-4-3 and is touted as the best minor hockey team ever to come out of Thunder bay.
That team consisted of five players who made it to the NHL. They are Jason Jaspers, Aaron MacKenzie, Alex Auld, Taylor Pyatt and Patrick Sharp. Other NHL players Derek, or Chico as he is known to his players, has coached are Eric Staal, Marc Staal, Jordan Staal, Tom Pyatt, Josef Balej and Carter Hutton. He currently coaches his son Nates hockey team The KC AA Sabres. He also serves as Vice-President of KC hockey and chairs both the KC Christmas Classic Novice Tourney and the KC 3 on 3 tourney.
Another Sportop AAA Bantam King member was Haley Irwin, 2010 Olympic Gold Medal Winner.
